Farina — known as 'cream of wheat' in many West African households — is a beloved breakfast staple that bridges cultures. In Ghana, farina porridge (often called 'koko' when made with corn, or simply 'porridge') is a morning ritual, often sweetened with sugar and served with evaporated milk and bread. It's especially popular as a first solid food for babies and a comforting meal for the whole family.
Wheat farina (Triticum aestivum), iron (ferric phosphate), B vitamins (niacin, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid).
Bring 1 cup of water or milk to a boil. Gradually stir in 3 tablespoons of farina, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Reduce heat and cook for 2-3 minutes until thick and creamy. Sweeten with sugar, add a splash of evaporated milk, and serve warm. Can also be mixed with ground spices for a savory version.
