Uziza leaves have a warm, peppery flavour that adds a unique spicy dimension to Nigerian soups. A relative of black pepper, uziza is essential in traditional Nsala (White Soup) and pepper soup, providing both heat and a distinctive aromatic quality. Add dried leaves directly to soups in the last 5-10 minutes of cooking. Essential in Nsala (White Soup), pepper soup, and Ofe Nsala. Also adds warmth to Egusi and vegetable soups. Can be ground and used as a peppery seasoning. Use 2-3 tablespoons per pot of soup.
